MEDFORD – On Tuesday, September 8, Medford Water Commission customers were notified of the need to immediately restrict certain non-essential water uses to preserve water for fire emergencies and necessary domestic use due to fire activity and sustained high demand on the water system.
Commission staff has assessed the current situation, and determined that due to stable reservoir levels and increased flow from our Big Butte Springs source, the emergency water usage restrictions can be reduced to voluntary.
At this time, the Commission will rely on the support and cooperation of customers in voluntarily reducing certain non-essential water uses as follows, to help protect the public health and safety of our community:
• Water landscapes only between the hours of 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., if on automatic timers, and between the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., if performed manually. Sprinklers and other irrigation components should be repaired, adjusted, and operated without waste.
• When in use, equip hoses with nozzles that direct water and shut off when not activated. If hoses are used for manual watering, utilize timing devices that can be attached to the hose bib to make sure that water is not left running longer than intended.
• All known customer leaks inside and outside homes and businesses should be repaired.
• Reduce non-essential water use, including but not limited to: ornamental fountains that use drinking water, washing of personal or recreational vehicles except at facilities that recycle, all non-emergency hydrant use (including device permits) and water main flushing, dust control using water at construction sites, washing of buildings, sidewalks, streets, decks, driveways, except as necessary for public health/safety, as well as the filling or refilling ponds or swimming pools.
In addition to Medford water customers, this message also applies to properties within Central Point, Eagle Point, Phoenix, Jacksonville, and White City.
Our community is currently experiencing rapid change and numerous challenges, and we appreciate the sacrifice of our customers and cooperation with these efforts. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available or necessary.
