Public Notice – City Council and commission vacancies.

Are you interested in volunteering? Would you like to have an impact on what is happening in Eagle Point? In addition to two vacancies on the City Council, Eagle Point has vacancies on its Neighborhood Enhancement Commission, and Planning Commission.

Public Notice of Vacancies: The City of Eagle Point is recruiting for two vacancies on the City Council with partial terms effective upon appointment through December 31, 2024. Persons interested in serving should be registered voters and are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. No prior government experience is needed. In addition to these positions, the city is currently accepting applications from persons interested in serving on the Neighborhood Enhancement Commission (1 vacancy, partial term ending December 31, 2023), or Planning Commission (4 vacancies – 4-year terms).

All applicants must currently reside within the city limits of Eagle Point and have been Eagle Point residents for at least one full year prior to appointment. Applications may be obtained online at www.cityofeaglepoint.org or picked up at Eagle Point City Hall located at 17 Buchanan Avenue South in Eagle Point. If there are questions, please contact Cindy Hughes, City Recorder, at 541-826-4212 ext. 106.

Additional details: The City Council consists of a mayor and six councilors, all nonpartisan offices, elected at large except when vacancies are filled by appointment of a majority vote of the Council. City Council members attend council meetings to hear the concerns of citizens, discuss city policies, changes to current laws, city goals, budget adoption, finances, strategic planning, major projects and infrastructure improvements, as well as community growth and land use planning. They also determine the need to change or pass laws within the city’s municipal code. The Neighborhood Enhancement Commission acts as an advisory body to the city staff and City Council on matters pertaining to developing and preserving aesthetic, recreational and cultural values to enhance quality of life in neighborhoods throughout the community. The commission also serves as the city’s parks and tree advisory committee, in addition to supporting an annual Arbor Day observance and complying with the standards of the Tree City USA program. The Planning Commission has special land-use authority under Oregon law to address land use matters, render judgment, and/or pass recommendations on certain matters to the City Council.
